Browing my local Craigslist I came across !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which the seller claims only has 22,000 miles and is "all original". It even includes the factory plastic wrap on the seats, foam door bumpers, and something called a "steering wheel shifter". Not much else is revealed about the car in the ad though, such as engine size (5.0 or 5.7?) and how or where it's been stored for over 25 years, nor are there any pictures of the front or rear. Perhaps the seller thinks this well-preserved example of legendary 1980's GM build quality simply speaks for itself.
At $17,995, it's slightly out reach for your typical third-gen Camaro shopper. Since not many people have $18k laying around, would the idea of adding this Mustang-fighter to your stable make you say "I'd Rely On Credit", or "It's Really Overpriced Crap"?

CP. Any 3rd gen Camaro is a project car for me.

As much as I goddamn love 3rd gen F-bodies, it's impossible for one to be worth that much money (except MAYBE if it's a mint condition 1LE or a track-oriented LS-swapped pro-touring build)

Couldn't resist some more IROC jokes:
What does IROC stand for?
I Reek Of Cologne
Inebriated Retard Out Cruising
I Race Other Cars
I'm Really Only a Camaro
I Run Over Children

How about an '88 with 1 LITTLE OLD LADY OWNER?
...How do you forget to put a price in the ad?

Having sunk what could have been one year's college tuition into keeping one going for most of a decade, I can say without any hesitation that you are spot on.

Holy crap! I was thinking project because I would want to swap the motor and upgrade the suspension. I didn't know they were so expensive to run! What makes the upkeep so expensive, if you don't mind telling me?

There's a price there now, so maybe she edited it... but still, $15k for a TBI Camaro with 79,000 miles? You're paying $6k for the car and $9k for the emotional attachment.
And I have to question the "IROC package" - it appears to have regular Z-28 wheels, and lacks the IROC badging, plus did any IROC cars come with the TBI motor rather than the more advanced TPI setup? Eh, regardless, she's got her head in the clouds.

Haha, well... In the whole time I owned it I swapped the motor, the transmission the rear diff., the exhaust (twice actually), and pretty much every suspension component. Then I attempted interior upgrades, such as leather seats from a 4th-gen Camaro (which were much more comfortable and smelled a lot better than the musty cloth ones), then t-top weatherstripping, then carpeting (from the leaky t-tops), etc. etc. Each step along the way, I replaced whatever was broken with a piece that would improve performance, but no matter how much I spent or tried to plan, there was never not something wrong with it.
It was fun when it was working well though. But eventually rot caught up to it and I just couldn't justify spending even MORE money to fix the body issues that cropped up along the way. I moved on, and my wallet and I are on much better terms now.

So do you think this was just a case of getting a bad example or indicative of the entire breed?

I think it's just the nature of a fairly-poorly-constructed 80's car, daily driven year-'round. If it was garage-kept, etc. I doubt I'd have had the body issues with it but most of the other items still would have needed attention. I think it was really a combination of wear-and-tear and a not-very-durable design. Good looking car though. If I ever have a garage, I'd think about another one.

That was exactly what I thought when I first saw it a few weeks ago.

I saw a 96ish z28 in a parking lot driven by a little old lady. When I looked in the window, it had only 9100 miles.
